This has been a question on the minds of many for centuries. The simple answer is that no one knows when Jesus will return. Jesus doesn't even know when He is coming back!

Mark 13:32
(32)  "But of that day and that hour knows no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

 

Jesus doesn't know when He is coming back but He did tell us to "watch" and He mentioned some clues that we could know that His coming would be close.

 

Mark 13:33
(33)  Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

 

Mark 13:19-23
(19)  For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
(20)  And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
(21)  And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
(22)  For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
(23)  But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

There will be Two Witnesses appear on the scene in Jerusalem during a Great Tribulation. They will preach the coming of Christ and perform various signs and wonders to back up their preaching.
 

Revelation 11:3-6
(3)  And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
(4)  These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
(5)  And if any man will hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth, and devours their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
(6)  These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
 

The Jews will build a Third Temple. This will happen because the Great False Prophet will sit in the Temple.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-5
(1)  Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
(2)  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
(3)  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
(4)  Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
(5)  Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
